Interpretation is an important professional service constantly required by various organizations such as research institutions, public offices, and corporations, and it can only be properly provided by professional interpreters with expertise in required fields. Based on our experience of successfully providing language education along with English editing and translation services here at KAIST, we have now launched a professional interpretation service.
- ㆍLanguage of service: English, French, German, Japanese & Chinese

- ㆍInterpreters: Highly experienced professionals with expertise in the respective fields who have graduated from Master's programs in interpretation
ㆍTypes of interpretation

Simultaneous | Simultaneous interpretation of speeches at international conferences, workshops, symposiums, etc. (Working in pairs) |
Consecutive | Interpretation after a portion of speech at business meetings, lectures, interviews, etc. |
Guide and interpretation | Accompanying client and providing interpretation during overseas business trips, inspections, buyer visits, etc. |
Whispering | Accompanying the speaker to provide simultaneous interpretation, usually for meetings with one foreign participant. |
Video conference (call) | Similar to consecutive interpretation but for video conference or conference calls, etc. |
Relay | Interpretation involving 3 languages |
- ㆍStandard interpretation fees
- Interpretation duration includes all hours (including breaks) minus 1 for lunch from start to finish. If interpretation continues during lunch, the hour is also included into the total billable hours.

- * The above fees are applied to other types of interpretation as well
- * Simultaneous interpretation is always conducted in pairs (even for 30 minutes durations) and may require 3 people depending on difficulty and duration.
- ㆍPayment of interpretation fees
- 1. Issuing of receipts: Only for external organizations with business registration.
- 2. ash transfers: Open to all clients.

- ㆍCancellation fees
- If you wish to cancel the engagement after the contract has been made, cancellation fees will be applied as given below.
- - 7days before: 30%
- - 2 ~ 6days before: 40%
- - The day before: 50%
- - On actual day: 100%
ㆍAdditional fees

Rehearsal | If the rehearsal takes place on the day of the meeting, the interpretation duration is calculated including the rehearsal. If the rehearsal takes place on a separate day, it is charged using the same fee table as provided for interpretation. |
Pre-briefing | There is a fee of KRW 100,000 per person per hour. Materials related to the meeting must be delivered by the organizer to the interpreter at least 1 week before the day via e-mail or a delivery service. |
Recording and broadcasting | The recording and broadcasting of the interpretation can only be conducted through prior agreement with the interpreter. An additional fee of 50% is charged for recording and 100% for broadcasting. |
- ㆍTravel fees
- ○ Domestic (All regions outside of Daejeon)
- - Daily fee for stay outside of interpretation hours: 300,000 per day (In cases where interpreter arrives 1 day before the event and/or leaves on the day after the conclusion of the event)
- - Daily fee for duration of stay away from region of residence: KRW 100,000 per day
- - Fee for days without interpretation hours during the entire duration of stay: KRW 300,000 per day
- - Transportation to and from the venue must involve the shortest travelling time possible and the cost is borne by the organizer
- ○ Overseas
- - Daily fee for stay outside of interpretation hours: 300,000 per day (In cases where interpreter arrives 1 day before the event and/or leaves on the day after the conclusion of the event)
- - Rest period (1 day): When flight time exceeds 8 hours, 1 day each before and after the event
- - Rest period (2 days): When flight time exceeds 16 hours, 2 days each before and after the event (with consideration for international date line crossing)
- - Daily fee for duration of stay away from region of residence: KRW 100,000 per day
- - Fee for days without interpretation hours during the entire duration of stay: KRW 300,000 per day
- - Cost of return flights, transportation, and accommodation (1 hotel room per person) to be borne by organizer
