About KAIST Language Center

KAIST LANGUAGE CENTER

KAIST Language Center was established in September 1995, with an aim of improving language competencies of the KAIST students and researchers in Daedeok Science Park and providing foreigners a better understanding of Korean language and culture.

Forging business network with more than 50 research institutes and over 90 universities in Korea, KAIST Language Center has provided various language-related supports, including language courses, English competency evaluations, and Korean/English proofreading, interpretation and translation services. Highly competent language experts including proofreaders, interpreters/translators, and lecturers are in place, serving in their field of expertise.



1995 ~ 1999
  • Sep. 1995 KAIST Language Center established
  • Jul. 1996 Launched KAIST English Village program
  • Dec. 1996 Launched regular language courses
  • Jul. 1998 Open language classes to public
2000 ~ 2010
  • Mar. 2000 Launched English proofreading services
  • Mar. 2003 Launched translation services
  • Aug. 2007 EFL project transferred to the Center
  • Jan. 2009 EFL project transferred to KAIST School of Humanities and Sciences
  • Mar. 2009 Launched TESOL program for English teachers in Daejeon
  • Dec. 2009 Launched KAIST English Program for Freshmen
  • Jul. 2010 Published a coursebook. “Classroom English”
  • Aug. 2010 Reshuffled as Language Center Management Team
  • Dec. 2010 Published a coursebook. “Welcome to Korean”
2011 ~ 2015
  • Jan. 2011 Provided language supports to furnish KAIST administrative documents both in Korean and English
  • Aug. 2011 Launched GRE Test services
  • Mar. 2012 Established Language Education Policy Lab
  • Mar. 2012 Published “Useful Expressions for Agenda Items”
  • Apr. 2012 Launched Korean Language Campus commissioned by Daejeon Metropolitan City
  • Jan. 2013 Reorganized regular language courses based on 6-semester system (per year)
  • Jan. 2013 Language Center Management Team transferred to College of Liberal Arts and Convergence Science
  • Sep. 2014 Launched monthly regular language courses
  • Nov. 2014 Published a compilation of KOR/ENG expressions for KAIST administrative documents
  • Jun. 2015 Published a compilation of KOR/ENG expressions for KAIST administrative documents
  • Sep. 2015 Marked the 20th Anniversary
  • Oct. 2015 Launched language course abroad for public officials
  • Nov. 2015 Launched Interpretation services
  • Dec. 2015 Launched customized language courses
2016 to present
  • Sep. 2017 Launched Korean proofreading services
  • Jul. 2018 Introduced discount coupon system for course fees
  • Jan. 2019 Published a compilation of English expressions for administrative affairs
