Translation Service

Professional Korean translators translate the requested document first, which will then be completed by a professional editor for the foreign language. Korean translators are bilingual, and are proficient in both Korean and the relevant foreign language. To finalize the schedule, translation service requires consultation with the Language Center.

Translation Language: English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, etc.

※ Other languages are available after consultation.

1. Korean -> Foreign Language: The professional Korean translator translates the requested document first, which will then be completed by a professional editor for the foreign language.
2. Foreign Language -> Korean: Bilingual professional Korean translators will translate the document.

  • 1. All proofreading services commence after the client approves the price estimate.
  • 2. Orders received after 17:30 will be counted as having been requested the following business day.
  • 3. Because no proofreading is provided on weekends and public holidays, the number of those non-business days must be excluded when estimating the date of completion.

Service Request
  • 1. In order to request a service, log in to the KAIST Language Center homepage and register. Then fill out the information on the comparison proofreading request page and attach the file for the service.
  • 2. MS Word and HWP formats are recommended. Special symbols cannot be used in file name. (Please contact the Language Center via email or phone if you use programs other(HWP, PDF, and etc) than MS Word: language@kaist.ac.kr or 042-350-8731.)
  • 3. If possible, please attach an index of the glossary of your documents in addition, as it would be helpful in ensuring accuracy.
  • 4. To determine the accurate schedule, express translation will begin only after consultation with the Language Center.
  • 5. Upon placing an order, clients will receive a price estimate by email, and proofreading will begin only after the client approves the estimate. All notifications regarding the process as well as final completed work will be delivered through email and can be found on the MY PAGE of homepage
Introduction of Translators and Proofreaders
  • 1. Translators: Those who completed a graduate program regarding the relevant language (e.g. education or literature of the language).
  • 2. Proofreaders: English native visiting professors at KAIST or native speakers of the relevant language.
Rates of Translation
  • 1. Translation for languages other than English, Japanese, and Chinese will commence only after consultation with the Language Center.
  • 2. If the amount of text on the last page is more than 0.5 page, it will be rounded up to one page and a requested paper that has less than 1 page of text counts as one page.
  • 3. Documents drafted using MS-WORD and HWP are standard.
  • 4. One page calculation standard is: 25 mm border indentations, font 12, and 25 lines. For documents with a two-column layout, 50 lines in any one column will be calculated as one page. For documents whose number of characters or words can be counted, the criteria applicable to the relevant language will apply to calculating one page, and any page longer than half a page will be rounded up to one page. Prior consultation with the Language Center is required before the service begins.
Korean to English It is calculated based on the number of Korean characters.

Account Transfer KAIST Only Please contact the person in charge at each department and/or lab regarding the possibility of utilizing the account transfer method or information.

  • Cancelation of Comparison Proofreading and Changing a file
  • Regardless of the initial date of application, if you cancel or change a file that you have already requested, you will be responsible for the costs incurred by parts already translated. Cancellation and change procedures can be made by telephone only, please contact the person in charge.(Tel. 042-350-8731)
  • Guaranteed for re-proofreading/translation
  • 1. If all following requirements meet.
    - The official reviewer’s comment should be presented.
    - The document finally submitted must be identical to the proofread document.
    - The service must be requested within 3 years of the original KAIST Language Center translating date of completion.
    - The same translator must offer the service.
  • 2. Other reason for re-proofreading: If the proofreader evidently made mistakes.
  • 3. Process: The service begins immediately after evidentiary documents are received by email (language@kaist.ac.kr).
    * Documents required: Name (client), date of service, service number, original file submitted to the journal, letter from the journal with English comments
  • Document storage period and issuance of certificates
  • Documents will be stored for three years from the date of completion, and translation certificates may be issued for the same period.
